1) TAC UPDATE--
Orders for TAC #13 and 14 were due on April 19. After I checked with a few
readers who hadn't sent in their order forms I took all the pages and
photographs to the printing company. I spoke with Dale a few days ago, and
he said the wait is almost over. I should have them within two weeks and
will send them out as quickly as I can. Thanks for your patience. I'm as
anxious as you are to see them. I know the process is slow, but as Meldini
might say... "but I did make progress, have I not?"

KING: One minute of.
MELDINI: So... why be nervous. He's not coming here.
KING: 360 Warehouse Street. I picked a good place all right... it's
deserted.
MELDINI: Wonderful, wonderful. But... maybe he did not get your message, Mr.
King?
KING: Oh... he'll get it all right. There's a guy on the Daily Planet who'll
give it to him. A nosey reporter by the name of Clark Kent. He's a friend of
Superman's I think. I don't know why though.
MELDINI: You Americans. You never make sense. You send a message... you say
noon tomorrow... and yet
KING: It's like playing a game of checkers see. I said "tomorrow," so
Superman figures he'll jump me. He'll go there and look around today. What
do I do? Today I'm ready with a double-jump. Today the... trap is set.
Pretty smart, huh?
MELDINI: Mmmmm, I... I would rather play gin rummy.
KING: I didn't bring you all the way from Europe to hear you make wise
cracks. All you've got to do is learn what this guy is made of.
MELDINI: All right...all right... Mr. King. All right...but I... I did make
progress, have I not?
KING: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
MELDINI: Now, if my theory is correct... if Superman is really from some
other planet... say from a... the now extinct planet Krypton for example...
why soon we may be able to destroy him by using
(factory whistle)
KING: It's noon.

2) WEB PAGE--
If you've checked out my web site in the past few hours, you probably saw a
change to the introductory page. There is a nice surprise there for you if
you haven't visited recently. Of course, I'll be making more changes soon.
It would be helpful to me if you'd consider submitting a Reader Profile or
some Questions to keep the pages interesting and changing. Major changes
have not yet been made, "but I did make progress, have I not?"

3) FUNNY BONERS--
Reader Russel Forsythe recently sent to me a page from the March 5, 1955
issue of TV Guide. Listed at 11:00 AM (eastern time) is:

11:00 (7) Funny Boners - Jimmy Weldon
George "Superman" Reeves visits the show today. Jimmy and Webster sing
"Little Sir Echo" in an Alps setting.

Funny Boners was a short-lived NBC program hosted by ventriloquist Jimmy
Weldon and his duck, Webster Webfoot. It was broadcast from Los Angeles.

4) UNSOLVED MYSTERIES - PART I -
In 1995 I traveled to Los Angeles to tape the Unsolved Mysteries segment on
the death of George Reeves. While I was there Michael Hayde, my wife, and I
visited George Reeves' house at 1759 Benedict Canyon Drive. We also watched
the taping of the re-enactment scenes for the segment. I've already posted a
couple pictures taken in the back yard at the Benedict Canyon address, but I
have a couple others which I'll post as soon as I can ("but I did make
progress, have I not?")

5) UNSOLVED MYSTERIES - PART II -
Yesterday I received a phone call from Hilary Roberts at Unsolved Mysteries.
She asked if I'd kindly send e-mail messages to the powers that be at NBC
concerning the renewal of the series. At the moment, she doesn't know if it
will be back in the fall, but perhaps with our help, NBC can be persuaded to
pick it up for a tenth season. If you'd like to help influence their
decision, please sent TWO short notes to this e-mail address -
unsolved@NBC.com. The first should be directed to Warren Littlefield, the
second to Don Ohlmeyer. Let them know you enjoyed the series and would like
to see it continue. Hilary told me they have the support of many law
enforcement agencies, but would like some viewer support as well. This must
be done before Thursday afternoon, May 8!!!!

You might write something to this effect.

Dear Mr. Littlefield,
It has come to my attention that the fate of the television series Unsolved
Mysteries is currently being decided by NBC. I surely hope you decide in its
favor. Not only is it entertaining, but it clearly serves a valuable service
to our communities by aiding in the apprehension of criminals, the solving
of crimes, the reuniting of families, and the exploration of seemingly
impossible happenings. Please consider all things carefully before making
your decision.

6) SUPERMAN'S GHOST--
No, I've not encountered the ghost for Scotland Yard, nor have I actually
talked with Great Caesar about the Gallic Wars. Instead, a few years ago Don
McLean wrote a song called Superman's Ghost. A reader of TAC, known only to
me as Holden121 (could he possibly be some relation to X-249 Zarinski?) sent
me the lyrics to the song which I thought you might like to read.

I don't wanna be like old George Reeves
Stuck in a Superman role
I've got a long way to go in my career
And someday my fame will make it clear
That I had to be a Superman

He came from another place deep in his mind
As far as the planets in space
As galaxies's mysteries start to unwind
Some changes are bound to take place
Though gravity constantly weighs on my travels
My mission is close to a drift
Though I can be strong when my power unravels
I still come to you for a lift

I don't wanna be like old George Reeves
Stuck in a Superman role
I've got a long way to go in my career
And someday my fame will make it clear
That I had to be a Superman

I know I can fly when my plane hits the sky
I believe I've got nothing to lose
But when I'm alone with the bed and the phone
I get the terminal Metropolis blues
I flew to the coast where Superman's Ghost
Lay shot on the bedroom floor
He said "Watch out for TV, it crucified me,
But it can't crucify me no more!"

I don't wanna be like George Reeves
Stuck in a Superman role
I've got a long way to go in my career
And someday my fame will make it clear
That I had to be a Superman

"I'm red white and blue, I've got justice to do
I'm the man of your fantasy dreams
But I'm an alien man from an alien land
Who's alive on your orthicon screens
I once ruled the world and when flags were unfurled
I performed for you live not on tape
But the public is cruel when played for a fool
As you see by the blood on my cape!"

I don't wanna be like old George Reeves
Stuck in a Superman role
I've got a long way to go in my career
And someday my fame will make it clear
That I had to be a Superman

"Well I never was real or stronger than steel
I'm a figment of Freudian need
And the video screen is a psychotic scene
And it's done with mirrors and green
My agent just called, the talks have been stalled
I soon will be pulled from the air
But the image persists in the video mists
That a Superman will be there!"

I don't wanna be like old George Reeves
Stuck in a Superman role
I've got a long way to go in my career
And someday my fame will make it clear
That I had to be a Superman

Except for a few bars which were broadcast as part of a segment about George
Reeves on a tabloid television show a few years ago, I've not heard the
song. There are a few inaccuracies in the lyrics, but I like to know what
you think of it. I'd also like to know if anyone has ever heard it in its
entirety.
