Across the alley beside Dr. Ort's home is a building used
as the movie house on The Andy Griffith Show. There was
usually a large curved marquee that said, "Grand" acround
the front. In its 1951 incarnation, however, this building was
the Smallville Bus Terminal as seen in "Superman On Earth"
and the Daily Planet delivery entrance in "Crime
Wave." In "Czar of the Underworld," the National
Studios film crew set up their cameras in this location where
they filmed Mr. Dexter's unfortunate last car ride.

Superman: Clark leaves for Metropolis
The prviously mentioned alley between Dr. Ort's house and
the Mayberry Grand (that's to the left of Dr. Ort's house) is
hallowed ground to Superman fans. It was into this alley
that George ran as Kent and emerged as Superman for the oft-used
wire and harness take-off, complete with blowing newspapers.
It was very impressive. "Run that again!" says John
(Mr. Big) Eldridge when he sees it. And in this alley George
also beat the stuffing out of James Craven for stealing the Chinese
Jade and for making that crack about "they guy in the circus
suit."
